Particularly in recent years, there has been a trend towards the DIY approach for your wedding, especially the flowers. I'm all for a bit of DIY, it can help reduce the often enormous costs of weddings and its a fun way to get hands on and involve your friends and family.
But...it can also cause extra tension and stress that you and your family/friends don't need on an already stressful day, and sometimes the end result isn't quite what you had envisioned. So, if you have the budget to hire a professional florist let me share with you a few reasons why it is well worth the investment ...
Saving yours and spending ours! Trust me, leading up to your wedding you will be so time poor...do you really have time to make the 4:30am trip out to the flower market (lets face it, all the good stuff is gone by 6am!)? That's what we are here for...and it's never just one trip...we will do multiple market runs picking up things that are available on different days and planning out when to buy what so that it is fresh but also in full bloom on the day.
Let your florist be the one to get up uber early on your wedding day to put your bridal party flowers together so you can enjoy breakfast with family and friends. Let us be the ones to get to your ceremony and reception early and get everything set up - trust me you won't have the time on the day and your friends and family don't really want to do this for you! And what about packing down the ceremony and reception flowers, that's the last thing anyone will feel like doing at the end of the night or early the next morning, so again get your florist to do this for you and spend the time with your new husband/wife (or in bed nursing your hangover!).
QUALITY & AVAILABILITY
Think every bunch of flowers is created equal? Think again!
As professional florists we have extensive experience buying from the flower market and we have cultivated relationships with the flower growers and suppliers. We know what is in season and where to source the best blooms and we can sniff out those unique touches that will make all the difference to your flowers.
We also know which blooms will last well out in the elements for an outside ceremony and which need to stay in water inside, so we can ensure that nothing is looking sad and droopy when you walk down that aisle!
DON'T SWEAT THE DETAILS
Because, trust me, we are sweating them for you! As your florist we will worry about getting all those tiny details right so that you don't have to. Like me, every florist I know puts their heart and soul into their wedding work. We genuinely want the flowers to be a reflection of you as a couple and for them to add a bit of magic to your day.
We will do everything we can to get all those small details right. I once drove around Sydney to four different ribbon supply stores to find the right shade of grey for a bridal bouquet (true story!). The Bride and Groom will never know that I did this, and yes I could have just used another shade of grey ribbon but I knew that it wasn't really what they wanted (yes, self confessed perfectionist right here).
Your florist will also liaise directly with your venues and suppliers to organise all set ups, deliveries and pack downs. We are also generally happy to set up other small decorations such as tea light candles. Meaning fewer details for you to organise!
PROFESSIONAL CUSTOM DESIGNS
And finally, it can be easy to forget that a florist is professionally trained - we will usually have at least a Certificate 3 in Floristry and years of industry experience behind us. So when you engage a florist to do your wedding flowers you are paying for a qualified and skilled professional to design and arrange your flowers.
We will make suggestions and put together a custom design just for you. This will usually take place over (many) consultations and after we have looked over your pinterest board and exchanged lots of images and emails, and we will also usually take into account what everyone is wearing, any colour themes and the location of the wedding. It's never a case of just throwing a bouquet together, each couple is unique and so is each wedding.
So if you are trying to decide if it's worth using a professional florist for your wedding, remember that that value is not only in the physical flowers that you will receive, there is so so much more.
